Are We Keeping it *TOO Real on Social Media?

In the world of bloggers and online influencers, I’ve witnessed a common trend going on lately. While attempting to be “authentic” and “keep it real,” people are spilling the most nitty, gritty, gruesome details of their personal lives.

Now, I’m all about 100% speaking your truth, owning who you are, and sharing your life as it is… But, in my opinion, there should be some discretion and boundaries to what is shared publicly. Would you walk up to a random person in the store and say, “Hey, so I took a humongous shit this morning, would you like to see a pic?” ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Dear god, I hope not!!!!! But, yet this is about the equivalent of what people are doing on social media these days. Posting about their kids epic puke and poop messes, pictures of pus-filled nastiness, details about their *ahem bedroom happenings, and a whole plethora of things that just don’t need to be broadcasted.

If my mother started posting about all the times I peed or crapped my pants, or my husband posted about some of my bathroom habits, I’d be beyond mortified. So why then, are so many mom bloggers spilling the dirty secrets of their families with no regards to their feelings? I know if I ASKED my husband or kids if I could post about the gross things they do, they’d freak out and say, “NOOOO!!!!” I posted last week on Instagram how the golden rule applies to our kids. If you wouldn’t want someone blasting your private business all over, then don’t you think they wouldn’t want it either?

Instead of “keepin’ it real,” more people need to “keep it classy.”

Yes, share your heart, share your struggles, your triumphs, your blessings, and failures. But leave the boobs, butts, and balls talk to the middle school boys, please!!!! ๐Ÿ’‹
